Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Pauillac

Jean-Michel Comme has been managing Château Pontet-Canet since 1989. Together with winemaking legend Alfred Tesseron, he completely transformed both the vineyard and the identity of Château Pontet-Canet. The new beginning was achieved by abandoning conventional viticultural techniques in favour of sustainable methods. As a result, the vineyard soils have recovered, and the terroir is once again showing its original character. The vines seem liberated, and the grape quality has never been so excellent. The wines of Pontet-Canet have evolved so much that they are now among the most prestigious in Bordeaux.

Château Pontet-Canet

Château Pontet-Canet is one of the Médoc’s most characterful and innovative estates. Founded in 1705 and classified as a 5ème Grand Cru Classé, the property lies directly opposite Mouton Rothschild on some of Pauillac’s finest gravel rises. Today the château is led by Alfred Tesseron and Justine Tesseron, who have transformed it over the past two decades into one of the region’s most modern flagships.

Pontet-Canet is considered a pioneer of biodynamics in the Médoc. The vineyards are worked with horses to protect the soil, natural preparations replace synthetic treatments and ecological balance is at the centre of the work. This radical yet consistent philosophy is a key reason why Pontet-Canet produces remarkably clear, energetic and profound wines year after year.

In the cellar, the château combines traditional and avant-garde methods: part of the wine ages in classic barriques, while an increasing proportion matures in amphorae and large wooden vessels. This creates the unmistakable style: pure dark fruit, silky tannins, impressive density and at the same time remarkable freshness.

Today Pontet-Canet is one of the estates that far exceeds its 1855 classification: authentic, bold, powerful and unique in both expression and philosophy.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
