Until the 12th century, the area of ​​today's Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet appellation was a quarry. In the Middle Ages, today's parcels were inherited from the noble knight Montrachet to his illegitimate son, hence the name Bâtard. The reputation of the plots only increased in the 17th century thanks to the Cistercian Abbey of Mazières and the Dukes of Chagny. In 2008, Domaine Faiveley acquired this plot at the same time as the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru plot. The exclusively white wines from the Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru plots are among the most praised wines worldwide. They mature excellently in the bottle and achieve top prices at auctions.
