Description

Italy / Piedmont/ Barolo / Cannubi

The grapes for this Barolo come from the renowned single vineyard Cannubi. For over 300 years, this small ridge north-east of the municipality of Barolo has been one of the best vineyards in Piedmont. Only a few winegrowers are allowed to cultivate the micro-plots of the Cannubi vineyard and since 1935 the Damilanos have belonged to the circle of the chosen ones. Their Barolo Riserva is named after the oldest surviving bottle from this location called "Cannubi 1752". The Damilano family business has been producing its Riserva Cannubi “1752” since 2008. The Nebbiolo grapes come from just two hectares of organic land planted with 30-50 year old vines. Very few bottles of this wine are bottled each year.

The history of the Damilano winery began in 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, bought the historic Cannubi winery in the heart of Barolo. This purchase marked the beginning of a family tradition that would last for generations, with each member bringing their unique expertise and passion to the art of winemaking. Today, Damilano is run by the fourth generation of the family, continuing the custom of producing wines that remain true to both tradition and an innovative approach. This balance between tradition and modernity is the hallmark of Damilano's success. The estate has an impressive array of vineyards in the most sought-after locations in the Barolo wine-growing region. Each vineyard is meticulously tended with the utmost respect for the terroir, as the family is convinced that great wines are made in the vineyard.
