Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2018
Description
Description
The vineyards begin directly behind the Château and stretch over 70 hectares to the border of Saint Julien. Until 2000, the vineyards had been expanded piece by piece, a parcel here, one there. However, this pursuit of expansion diluted the quality. The turning point came with winemaker Christian Seely. He reduced the vineyard area for the Grand Cru to the Grand Terroir. As a result, Pichon-Baron became more consistent, and full phenolic ripeness is achieved. This produces wines with the classic Pauillac character, powerful and finessed, with the typical tannin structure. The development that Pichon-Baron has undergone in the last four decades is truly remarkable.
