Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Pauillac

The vineyards start directly behind Château Baron and stretch over 70 hectares to the border of St. Julien. Until 2000, the vineyards had been expanded piece by piece, one parcel here, one there. However, this pursuit of expansion diluted the quality. The turning point came with winemaker Christian Seely. He reduced the vine area for the Grand Cru to the Grand Terroir. As a result, Pichon-Baron is more consistent and full phenolic ripeness is achieved. This produces wines with the classic Pauillac character, powerful and finessed, with the typical tannin structure. The development that Pichon-Baron has undergone in the last four decades is truly remarkable.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, a 2ème Grand Cru Classé from 1855, is one of Pauillac’s most powerful and impressive estates. The vineyards lie on deep, warm gravel ridges over clay and limestone, a terroir that gives Cabernet Sauvignon ideal conditions and provides structure, intensity and pronounced Pauillac typicity. The style is distinctive and profound: concentrated dark fruit, cassis, graphite, tobacco and firm yet precise tannins. Modern cellar technology, strict selection and meticulous parcel work have greatly increased the estate’s precision over recent decades. Pichon Baron today stands for long-lived, powerful yet balanced wines that rank among the Médoc’s most aristocratic and reliable crus.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
