William Kelley for Robert Parker
A rich, powerful wine, the 2020 Léoville Poyferré exudes aromas of sweet berries, blueberry liqueur, exotic spices, incense and creamy new oak. It is full-bodied, broad and layered, deep and concentrated. Its rich fruit core only partially conceals a hefty load of sweet, powdery and generously extracted tannins. The Poyferré is generally the most flamboyant and demonstrative of the three Léovilles, but in 2020 it is stockier, broader-shouldered and more brooding than usual.
