The vineyards lie on deep, warm gravel soils over clay and limestone – ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The terroir delivers powerful yet elegant wines with dark fruit, cassis, fine spice and the smooth texture typical of Saint-Julien. Since modernisation under the Cuvelier family, the style has become even more refined: precise parcel work, careful harvesting and vinification that perfectly combines fullness and balance. Léoville Poyferré is now one of the most reliable, charming and profound crus of its rank, with great ageing potential and a distinctive signature.
