Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Pauillac

The winery is located on the left bank, in the renowned Pauillac appellation in Médoc. Since 2012, the winery has been managed by the trained oenologist Nicolas Glumineau. First and foremost, he focused on the vineyard soils, which, astonishingly, had never been done at this winery before. Glumineau decided to replant individual plots and begin with natural viticulture. Next, he tasted vintages from 1970 to 2010 and recognized that the wines that showed best were those with higher proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon, and in the future, the wines and vineyards should reflect this. His success proves him right. Since the 2014 vintage, his wines have been delighting critics and receiving top ratings.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, affectionately known as Pichon Comtesse, is one of Pauillac’s iconic estates and has been classified as a 2ème Grand Cru Classé since 1855. The terroir of deep gravel over clay provides ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot; the comparatively high proportion of Merlot gives the wine its characteristic softer, more seductive style. The wines show dark fruit, cassis, cedar, floral nuances and a silky-dense tannin structure that has made Pichon Comtesse famous worldwide. Under the Rouzaud family of Roederer, the estate has been extensively modernised and now focuses on sustainable precision, meticulous parcel work and selective vinification. The wines are among the most elegant, harmonious and long-lived crus of the Médoc.

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
