William Kelley for Robert Parker
The 2020 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is very demonstrative as soon as you open the glass, unleashing aromas of sweet cassis and blueberries that mingle with hints of cloves, violets and lilacs without any coaxing. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and polished, with a seamless, charming profile that has no hard edges, it closes with a beautifully defined, spice-driven finish. It is an excellent exercise in haute couture winemaking, although the 2019 offers a deeper insight into the estate's DNA for my taste.
