Château Beychevelle

Château Beychevelle is a magnificent estate and is considered one of the most beautiful châteaux in Bordeaux.

Located in the renowned Saint-Julien wine region of Bordeaux, it is a symbol of elegance, tradition and first-class viticulture. The estate is picturesquely situated on the banks of the Gironde and has for centuries stood for exceptional wines and a rich history.

The name derives from the term ‘baisse-voile’ (‘to lower the sails’) and refers to the legend that passing ships lowered their sails in honour of the lord of the estate, Jean-Louis Nogaret de La Valette, the first Duke of Épernon. The ship with the griffin head and lowered sails still adorns the Beychevelle label today. For Bordeaux lovers, Château Beychevelle is one of the finest addresses for impressive, finesse-driven Saint-Juliens.

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
