Description

The traditional Rudolf Fürst winery in Bürgstadt was first mentioned in a document in 1638 and is now one of Germany's leading Pinot Noir producers. Under Sebastian Fürst, a passionate Burgundy enthusiast and VDP member, the winery is particularly known for precise, terroir-driven Spätburgunder from extremely steep terraced vineyards such as Schlossberg, Centgrafenberg, and Hundsrück. The Burgundy style – from low yields to manual labor and open-top wooden fermentation – makes Fürst a benchmark for German Pinot Noir.
A historic Grand Cru site with up to 95% gradient on colorful sandstone. The wines mature in open-top wooden fermentation vats – partly with whole berries – through specially developed pre-maceration, which promotes elegance, freshness, and complexity.

The Rudolf Fürst estate in Bürgstadt is one of Germany’s most renowned producers. Its Pinot Noirs in particular have achieved international acclaim: elegant, profound and shaped by the Buntsandstein terroir of Franconia. In addition to red wines, its Chardonnay and white wines impress with precision and freshness. Under Sebastian Fürst, authentic, long-lived wines are produced that rank among Germany’s finest and impressively reflect Franconia’s potential.

Origin in Focus

Franken

Franken is a traditional wine region in northern Bavaria, shaped by shell limestone and Keuper soils along the Main, Tauber and Fränkische Saale rivers. The largely continental climate and diverse terroirs produce precise, dry wines with marked minerality. At its heart is Silvaner: clear, herbal, often with a fine salty note – an excellent food companion. Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder and aromatic specialities such as Bacchus also impress; among the reds, Spätburgunder and Domina play a role.

Typical of Franken is the Bocksbeutel, the distinctive round-bodied bottle with high recognition value. Well-known sites such as Würzburger Stein, Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg and Escherndorfer Lump stand for independent style and regional identity. Culinarily, Franconian wines pair excellently with asparagus, trout, Franconian Brotzeit and regional dishes – straightforward, characterful and often dry in the best sense.
