Description

The traditional Rudolf Fürst Winery in Bürgstadt (founded 1638) has long established itself as a leading Burgundy producer – from Pinot Noir to Chardonnay. The grapes for the Astheimer Chardonnay grow on shell limestone in Astheim, a cool, calcareous site right next to the Escherndorfer Lumpp. The vines were planted by the winery itself and come from Burgundian clonal material.
100% Chardonnay. The 2023 is tighter and more piquant than the more charming 2022, seeming more Chablis than Meursault – demanding, racy, and with electrifying energy.

The Rudolf Fürst estate in Bürgstadt is one of Germany’s most renowned producers. Franken

Franken is a traditional wine region in northern Bavaria, shaped by shell limestone and Keuper soils along the Main, Tauber and Fränkische Saale rivers. The largely continental climate and diverse terroirs produce precise, dry wines with marked minerality. At its heart is Silvaner: clear, herbal, often with a fine salty note – an excellent food companion. Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder and aromatic specialities such as Bacchus also impress; among the reds, Spätburgunder and Domina play a role.

Typical of Franken is the Bocksbeutel, the distinctive round-bodied bottle with high recognition value. Well-known sites such as Würzburger Stein, Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg and Escherndorfer Lump stand for independent style and regional identity. Culinarily, Franconian wines pair excellently with asparagus, trout, Franconian Brotzeit and regional dishes – straightforward, characterful and often dry in the best sense.
