Description

France / Bordeaux / Saint-Émilion

Trotte Vieille is one of the oldest wineries in Saint-Émilion and has the oldest vines in Bordeaux. Some of them date back to before the phylloxera plague and are therefore more than 140 years old. Trotte Vieille is also probably the château with the most bizarre name. Legend has it that it goes back to an old lady who lived in the property several hundred years ago. This lady was very interested in what was happening in the city of Bordeaux and used to go to the nearby stagecoach stop to find out the latest gossip. Since the lady hurried to the coaches every day, the people of Saint-Émilion called her "la trotte vieille", "the trotting old woman".
