Description

France / Bordeaux / Saint-Émilion

Trotte Vieille is one of the oldest wineries in Saint-Émilion and has the oldest vines in Bordeaux. Some of them predate the phylloxera plague and are therefore more than 140 years old. In addition, Trotte Vieille is probably the château with the most bizarre name. According to legend, it goes back to an old lady who lived in the property several hundred years ago. This lady was very interested in what was going on in the city of Bordeaux and used to go to the nearby stagecoach stop for the latest gossip. Since the lady rushed to the carriages every day, the inhabitants of Saint-Émilion called her "la trotte vieille", "the trotting old woman".
