Description

France / Bordeaux / Graves / Pessac-Léognan

Wine was planted at Château Smith Haut Lafitte as early as the mid-14th century, making the vineyards one of the oldest in Bordeaux. In 1990 Daniel and Florence Cathiard, the former top athlete couple of the French Olympic ski team, bought the château. One third of the vineyards were replanted, organic farming was introduced and a cooperage was built on the site. With these massive investments, they have turned an underperforming winery into a highly acclaimed top producer of both red and white wines. For several years, a high-class hotel and a restaurant with two Michelin stars have complemented the property.
