Description

France / Bordeaux / Saint-Émilion

The talented winemaker Stephan von Neipperg manages this 19th-century château, acquired by his family. Since 1996, long-lived wines have been produced here under the name La Mondotte, aged in the estate's own cellar. La Mondotte's 4.5-hectare vineyard is located on a clay-limestone plateau east of Saint-Émilion. This small jewel of a vineyard possesses all the natural characteristics of a Premier Grand Cru Classé. The shallow, barren soil ensures excellent water regulation, and combined with excellent sun exposure, the grapes can fully ripen and be harvested every year under ideal conditions.

Château La Mondotte

Château La Mondotte is a tiny, high-lying terroir jewel on the eastern edge of Saint-Émilion, directly on the limestone-influenced slope. The old, densely planted vines – mainly Merlot with Cabernet Franc – grow in compact limestone with a thin clay layer, which favours low yields, natural concentration and cool, saline tension. In the vineyard, precise manual work and strict selection dominate; in the cellar, vinification is carried out parcel by parcel with very gentle extraction and restrained use of oak. The style: powerful yet focused – dark cherry and plum, violet, graphite, taut, chalky-silky tannins and impressive length. The château creates distinctive Saint-Émilions that show the essence of the limestone plateau in concentrated, elegant form.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
