Lisa Perrotti-Brown for Robert Parker
The 2018 Haut-Brion shows aromas of ploughed earth, followed by pronounced licorice, then crushed rock, then the preserved plums. Finally, it all leads to a fascinating crescendo of intense crème de cassis, rose oil, wild blueberries and cherry notes , which is followed by quiet, lingering notes of cinnamon stick, truffle and blackcurrant jelly. On the palate, the medium to full-bodied wine shows concentrated black fruits, red berries and exotic spices in a solid, wonderfully soft frame and finishes long, with endless freshness, earthy and mineral.
