Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle decided in 1997 to create an extraordinary French-Chilean wine called Almaviva. Since then, they have skillfully expressed this vision with each vintage of Almaviva. The grapes for Almaviva ripen on 63 hectares of the exclusive Puente Alto terroir, in the upper part of the Maipo Valley. It is a unique wine, produced according to the concept of French châteaux. This wine is a classic Bordeaux cuvée, in which the main grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon is accompanied by Carmenere and Cabernet Franc.

Viña Almaviva was founded in 1997 as a prestige project by Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Concha y Toro and is now one of South America’s most famous wineries. Located in Alto Maipo, it benefits from warm days, cool Andean nights and gravelly-loamy soils that provide optimal drainage and deep-rooting vines. The terroir enables powerful yet exceptionally elegant Bordeaux blends, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Maipo Valley

Maipo Valley, often called the Bordeaux of Chile, lies between the Andes and the coast and is considered the cradle of Chilean quality winegrowing. The warm, dry climate combined with cool Andean winds creates perfect conditions for powerful, precisely structured red wines. The gravelly-sandy, well-drained soils encourage concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon with deep fruit, fine spice and remarkable elegance.

Alto Maipo in particular is known for mineral tension and exceptional longevity. Classics come from renowned estates such as Concha y Toro, Viña Santa Rita, Viña Cousiño Macul and Viña Pérez Cruz, which have contributed significantly to the region’s international reputation.
