From a hot, dry year, the 2017 Lieu-Dit Clavin comes from old Grenache vines planted in the sandy and clay soils surrounding the estate. This is one of the best Côtes du Rhône in pretty much any vintage. This beauty offers a round, medium to full-bodied style as well as great notes of blackberry, violet and licorice. I love its purity, it shows more and more floral character with time in the glass and will be a great wine that will last 10-15 years

On the northern border of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on the heights of the single vineyard "lieu-dit Clavin", the Domaine de la Vieille Julienne was built in the 17th century and is now considered one of the leading wineries in the region. The domaine is owned by Jean Paul Daumen, who took over the business from his father. It was he who brought biodynamics in its purest form to the winery.

The vines for the very rare top Côtes du Rhône are on average 85 years old.On the heights of the "lieu-dit Clavin", sand and red clay cover the soil and provide vines that produce highly concentrated wines, more comparable to a fresh Châteauneuf-du-Pape than to a Côtes du Rhône.

The domaine's vineyards extend over approximately 15 hectares and are planted with the region's traditional grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedére.
