Description

France / Languedoc / Limoux

Domaine de Baronarques is the result of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild's interest in emerging wine regions and is located in the heart of the Languedoc vineyards, in Saint-Polycarpe Nahe Limoux. Wine has been produced at the Domaine since the 17th century. After several changes of ownership, the estate was acquired in 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her children. After extensive recultivation of the vineyard and renovation of the wine cellars, very high quality wines are now produced here. The winery covers 110 hectares, 43 hectares of which are planted with Bordeaux and Mediterranean grape varieties. The great diversity of soils and microclimates gives the wines great complexity.

Domaine de Baron`Arques

Domaine de Baron’Arques lies in the Limoux appellation in the Languedoc and belongs to the Rothschild family (Mouton), which has extensively revitalised the historic estate since the 1990s. The vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, shaped by cool winds, altitude and varied soils of limestone, clay and sandstone. This constellation enables precise, complex cuvées from Bordeaux varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, complemented by Syrah and Malbec.

The white wines are mainly based on Chardonnay and show freshness, structure and mineral elegance. Modern cellar technology, meticulous parcel work and sustainable farming give the wines depth, balance and a noble signature. Domaine de Baronarques is now regarded as one of the outstanding quality estates of the Languedoc.

Origin in Focus

Languedoc

Languedoc stretches along the Mediterranean coast and is considered one of Europe’s largest and most diverse wine regions. Warm, sunny days, cooling winds and soils ranging from limestone to slate create ideal conditions for characterful wines. Traditionally, red blends from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan dominate, ranging from juicy and fruit-driven to spicy and powerful. They are joined by fresh white wines from Picpoul, Grenache Blanc or Vermentino, as well as aromatic rosés and excellent sparkling wines from Limoux.

Languedoc has evolved from a bulk-wine image into a dynamic quality region: many winemakers focus on old vines, sustainable cultivation and precise cellar work. The result is authentic Mediterranean wines with an excellent price-to-pleasure ratio.
