Domaine de la Grange des Pères is regarded as a cult estate of the Languedoc and is located near Aniane, not far from the famous Terrasses du Larzac. On poor, stony soils, it produces extremely limited red and white wines that recall great Rhône or Burgundy wines more than classic southern French reds. The red wines are dominated by Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon; they combine dark fruit, garrigue herbs, fine spice and cool minerality with silky, very present tannins and a long finish. Ageing is traditional, with plenty of time in the cellar and no fashionable effects – always aiming for maximum finesse rather than mere power. The rare white wines show density, saline tension and remarkable ageing potential.
