Description

France / Bordeaux / Saint-Émilion

Château L'If was acquired in 2010 by Jacques Thienpont, who also owns the renowned Château Le Pin. Le Pin got its name from the solitary pine tree on the estate. In homage to their Pomerol estate, Château L'If also drew inspiration for its name from a tree. "L'If" loosely translates to "yew tree." After purchasing the estate, significant work was invested in the vineyard with the aim of increasing the Cabernet Franc proportion in the vineyards. Until the newly planted vines are old enough to produce wine at the quality level desired by the Château, the annual wine production will be very small, and the wine will consequently be difficult to obtain.

Château L'If

Château L’If stands for the finest Bordeaux red wines from Saint-Émilion. The L’If estate, owned by Jacques Thienpont, combines traditional French viticulture with modern precision. On sparse limestone soils, Grand Cru wines are produced that unite finesse, depth and elegance. The varietal Merlot and Cabernet Franc authentically express the soul of the terroir. A French wine with great personality – noble, characterful and timeless.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
