The Forts of Latour
The 2015 Les Forts de Latour is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35.6% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.9% Petit Verdot and needs a fair amount of air to reveal a deep, powerful nose of blackcurrant, boysenberry, plum jam and dark chocolate, with hints of Chinese five spice, clove oil, violet and crushed stone. On the palate it is an absolute flavour enhancer, bursting with rich, ripe black fruit and plenty of spicy sparks, while framed by beautifully soft tannins that finish long and minerally. Not heavy at all, in fact, Les Forts is both expansive and tantalisingly refreshing. In terms of evolution, it has barely moved since I last tasted it in 2017. While it is drinking very well at the moment, it has easily 20 years in the cellar ahead of it, maybe more. Impressive.
