Château Latour

The history of Château Latour begins in the 14th century with the construction of the fortified tower depicted on the label. At that time, it was known as ‘Maison de La Tour’.

At the beginning of the 18th century, Alexandre de Ségur and his son Nicolas-Alexandre, whom Louis XV called the ‘Prince of the Vines’, laid the foundations for the estate’s enormous success.

Since then, it has undergone a remarkable development and become synonymous with Bordeaux wine of the highest quality. The estate covers around 78 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Château Latour is one of only five estates in the Médoc elevated to the rank of ‘Premier Grand Cru Classé’ in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. François Pinault has led the estate since 1993.

Although the Grand Vin has become a luxury brand under his leadership, this long-lived wine always remains a reflection of its unique terroir, and many critics regard Château Latour as the leading Premier Grand Cru estate. The grapes for the Grand Vin come exclusively from the top site ‘L’Enclos’ near the Gironde, with some vines over 100 years old.
