Description
France / Bordeaux / Pomerol
Although the winery has always been known for its great terroir, it has only recently begun to produce some of Pomerol's best wines. Catherine Pere-Verge, the Grand Dame of the Right Bank, bought Château La Violette in 2005 and made her debut with the 2006 vintage. Today, the winery is run by her son Henri Parent. The small vineyard of La Violette is located high on the Pomerol plateau, not far from Châteaux Trotanoy and Le Pin. The terroir of La Violette is a complex blend of clay and limestone with gravel and iron deposits that extend deep into the soil. The Merlot vines planted in this vineyard are almost 60 years old, some even older. Due to the very small production, this long-lived wine is highly sought after.
