Description

Spain / La Rioja / Viña Tondonia

The family-run Bodega López Heredia is one of the oldest and most traditional in Rioja. In 2019, the winery took 3rd place in the "World's Best Vineyards" competition. Three vineyards belong to the winery, of which Tondonia is the most famous. At an altitude of 450 meters, it meanders along the Ebro River. Remarkable wines of the highest quality are made from the grapes from the old vines. One feature underlines the philosophy of the winery in particular, the wines are given a lot of time. They are stored for years in barrels from their own cooperage and the wine is only released when it has matured perfectly. The Gran Reserva is only produced in exceptionally good vintages, most recently in 1995 and not again since 2001.
