Neal Martin for Robert Parker
The 2014 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, it could be argued, has a more engaging bouquet than the La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion, with a touch more minerality and tension in the glass. On the palate it is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, lively wild strawberry and blackcurrant fruit, mingling with white pepper, bay leaf and cedar. The admirable persistence in the mouth suggests it will provide 12-15 years of drinking pleasure. This wine is very fine.
