The Christian hospice in the town of Beaune on the Côte d'Or in Burgundy was founded in 1443 for charity. Since then, the income from the vineyards has been used to help the poor and to care for the elderly and the sick. Through donations and inheritances in the sub-areas Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, the vineyard areas increased steadily. After half a millennium, the winery now has 62 hectares of vineyards, spread over around 40 plots, all of which have Grand Cru or Premier Cru status. The cuvées are the result of a harmonious combination of different climates that make up the character of the wines of the Hospices de Beaune.
