Description

Daniel & Martha Gantenbein are considered flagships of Swiss Burgundy. The 2023 Pinot Noir comes from vines grown on slate and limestone scree soils, spontaneously fermented with whole bunch pressing, and aged in French barriques (approx. 100% new) for 16–18 months. No filtering, natural cellar techniques, and uncompromising quality in the vineyard create a powerful, terroir-driven unique wine.

In the glass, it shows a medium-deep purple. The nose is dominated by wild and sour cherries, fine notes of strawberry and raspberry, along with floral and earthy nuances, as well as roasted aromas and undergrowth. On the palate, the wine presents itself as dense, structured, and elegant with silky-fine-grained tannins, pronounced minerality, and a long-lasting, precisely fruity finish.

Gantenbein

The Gantenbein estate in Fläsch, Switzerland, is a legend. Martha and Daniel Gantenbein produce wines here of rare precision and depth – above all their Pinot Noir, which is one of Europe’s most cult red wines. Equally impressive are their Chardonnay white wines, which captivate with Burgundian finesse and alpine freshness. Gantenbein wine stands for artisanal excellence, uncompromising selection and a clear style that reflects the terroir of Graubünden in pure form. An estate that has brought Switzerland onto the great international wine stage.

Origin in Focus

Graubünden

The wine region of Graubünden, often known as the Bündner Herrschaft, is considered Switzerland’s leading origin for Pinot Noir. The vineyards lie on sunny slopes along the Alpine Rhine, where a mild foehn climate, large temperature differences and limestone-rich slate and scree soils create ideal conditions. The wines are marked by finesse, clarity and lively alpine freshness. Pinot Noir in particular shows impressive elegance, fine tannins and precise red fruit. White wines such as Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc also impress with minerality and structure. Renowned producers such as Gantenbein have established Graubünden internationally as an origin for characterful, terroir-driven premium wines.
