Description

The Esprit Leflaive Nuits‑Saint‑Georges 2020 is a precise cuvée from two old plots (total 1.15 ha, vines from 1955) on clay-limestone soils. It is hand-harvested, aged for 15 months in oak (25% new), then for 3 months in stainless steel tanks. Although this is a Village wine, it displays the typical finesse of Côte de Nuits Pinot Noirs – elegant, clearly structured, and with remarkable balance.

In the glass, it presents with a brilliant ruby red. The bright nose offers black cherry, blackberries, and a fine, earthy minerality – typical of Nuits-Saint-Georges. On the palate, it is fine, juicy, and delicately structured with silky tannins and subtle depth. The balance between ripeness and freshness is extremely harmonious.

Domaine Leflaive

Domaine Leflaive is one of Burgundy’s most important white-wine estates and the embodiment of great Chardonnay craftsmanship. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, the domaine owns outstanding sites such as Chevalier-, Bâtard- and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet as well as numerous Premier Crus. The limestone-rich, finely structured soils give the wines their famous tension, depth and elegance. Since the early 2000s, the estate has worked consistently biodynamically – an approach that has further enhanced purity, expression and longevity.

The domaine’s style: crystalline precision, fine salinity, structured finesse and an unmistakably energetic profile. Leflaive wines are among the longest-lived and most sought-after Chardonnays in the world and continue to set benchmarks for terroir-driven white wines.

Origin in Focus

Burgundy

The Burgundy (Bourgogne) wine region is shaped by small parcels and historic vineyards. The focus here is on two grape varieties – Pinot Noir and Chardonnay – which reflect soil, climate and craftsmanship with exceptional transparency.

Between Dijon and Mâcon, a narrow band of vineyards stretches for around 250 km, each with its own distinctive character.
