Description

Australia / South Australia / Barossa Valley / Ebenezer

Winemakers Adrian Hoffmann and Chris Ringland have been working together for more than 25 years. Together, they develop first-class wines from the Shiraz vineyards of the Hoffmann winemaking family. The Hoffmann winery was founded towards the end of the 19th century and has been family-owned for six generations. Adrian Hoffmann primarily cultivates Shiraz, Grenache, and Mataro vines here and has built up a remarkable reputation for the most sought-after grapes in the Barossa Valley. The North Barossa Shiraz is a collaboration of 12 winemakers from the Ebenezer sub-region in the north of Barossa. The group consists of neighbors, friends, and relatives of the Hoffmann family.

In Portrait:

Chris Ringland

Chris Ringland is considered a Barossa Valley legend and one of the style-defining figures for highly concentrated Australian Shiraz. From tiny parcels with very old vines – often over 80 years old – and extremely low yields, wines of impressive density and aromatic concentration are produced. The warm climate and sparse Barossa soils deliver deep dark fruit, while careful hand harvesting, long maceration and extended ageing in high-quality barriques build structure and complexity. Ringland’s Shiraz is rich, powerful and layered, with notes of black berries, liquorice, chocolate and intense spice, while still carried by balance and great length. Tiny production volumes and numerous top ratings have made his wines sought-after cult objects for collectors worldwide.
