Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Margaux

The estate "La Mothe de Margaux" (the Margaux hill) has been known since the 12th century. However, vines were only planted in 1572 by the Lestonnac family, who established the winery as we know it today. In the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate was ranked among the elite of the five best "Premier Grand Cru Classé". It is also known as the "Crown Jewel of the Médoc", and its wine is considered a prime example of elegance and finesse. The gravel and stone vineyards on a clay subsoil comprise 93 hectares of vines, of which 81 hectares are planted with red varieties and 12 hectares with white varieties.
