Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Saint-Julien

Château Lagrange is located on the left bank of the Garonne, in the heart of Saint-Julien. Like most wineries in Bordeaux, the estate passed through many hands until the current owners, the Suntory Group, acquired it in 1983. After taking over the estate, the new owners invested enormous sums to modernize the dilapidated cellar and replant the vineyards. Château Lagrange now has 118 hectares of vineyards in a single block, which is extremely rare in Bordeaux. Lagrange became a showcase winery, and today there are few Bordeaux wineries that can rival Lagrange.

Château Lagrange

Château Lagrange is a classic Third Growth in Saint-Julien, whose extensive, contiguous vineyards lie on deep Günz gravel with a sandy-loamy subsoil. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot; the parcels are precisely mapped and farmed sustainably. Selective hand harvesting, a gravity-flow cellar, parcel-by-parcel vinification and restrained ageing in French oak preserve clarity and finesse. Stylistically, Lagrange shows the noble Saint-Julien signature: cool cassis fruit, cedarwood, graphite, floral hints and taut, silky tannins with excellent ageing potential.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
