Description

France / Bordeaux / Margaux

Château d'Issan takes its name from the Essenault family (shortened to Issan), who managed the estate for five generations. Shortly after the famous classification of 1855, which ranked it as a 3rd Grand Cru Classé, Château d'Issan was invited to the Austrian Imperial Court. D'Issan was Emperor Franz-Joseph's favourite wine. He also coined the motto of the estate, which is still engraved above the castle door: "Regum mensis aris que deorum" (For the table of kings and the altar of gods). Château d'Issan is located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, a truly privileged location, which explains the outstanding quality of its wines. Everything is organized so that each individual plot can be cultivated individually to harvest grapes of the best quality.

In Portrait:

Château d'Issan

Château d’Issan, a 3ème Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, is one of the most traditional estates of the Médoc. The picturesque fortified château lies in the heart of Margaux, surrounded by gravel-rich soils over limestone and clay that provide perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The terroir allows particularly fine, velvety and aromatically complex wines with floral notes, deep fruit and typical Margaux elegance. Modern precision in the cellar meets centuries of vineyard experience. The result is long-lived, harmonious wine that ranks among the most stylistically beautiful in the appellation.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
