Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Margaux

The château got its name from the Essenault family (Issan for short), who ran the winery for five generations. Shortly after the Bordeaux classification of 1855, which identified it as 3émes Grand Cru Classé, Château d'Issan was invited to the Austrian court. The d'Issan was the favorite wine of Emperor Franz-Joseph. It was he who coined the motto of the winery, which is still engraved above the door of the castle: "Regum mensis aris que deorum" (For the table of the kings and the altar of the gods ). The Château d'Issan is located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, a truly privileged location, which explains the outstanding quality of its wines. Everything is organized in such a way that every single plot can be treated individually in order to be able to harvest the best quality grapes.
