Description

France / Bordeaux / Saint-Émilion

The history of the prestigious Château Angélus is both one of the oldest and one of the most recent in Bordeaux. The origins of the winemaking de Boüard family date back to 1544, but the Château as we know it today was only founded in 1909. At that time, Maurice de Boüard de La Forest bought a plot of land called L'Angelus and named his estate after it. Since 2012, it has belonged to the small circle of the four Premier Grand Cru Châteaux in Saint-Émilion. Today, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal manages the Château in the eighth generation. The dedicated winemaker is committed to environmental and species protection and works with particularly sustainable methods in the vineyard and cellar.

Château Angélus

The history of the prestigious Château Angélus is both one of the oldest and one of the youngest in Bordeaux. The origins of the de Boüard winemaking family date back to 1544, yet the château as we know it today was not founded until 1909. At that time, Maurice de Boüard de La Forest purchased a parcel called L’Angelus and named his estate after it.

Since then, the estate has built a rich tradition and has been passed down from generation to generation. The name ‘Angélus’ comes from the three bells of the nearby church, which ring every morning, noon and evening and are said to bring good fortune to the vineyards.

Since 2012, it has belonged to the small circle of four Premier Grand Cru châteaux in Saint-Émilion. Today, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal leads the château in the eighth generation. This dedicated winemaker is committed to environmental protection and biodiversity and works in vineyard and cellar according to natural, sustainable methods.

The Grand Vin of Château Angélus is one of the most sought-after and expensive wines of Saint-Émilion and regularly receives prestigious accolades in the wine world.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
