Description

La Closerie Grand Cru is an extremely rare, terroir-driven Champagne produced by vigneron Jérôme Prévost. The cuvée combines the elegance of Chardonnay from Grand Cru Mesnil-sur-Oger (Côte des Blancs) with the depth of Pinot Noir from Grand Cru Puisieulx (Montagne de Reims) – two iconic terroirs of Champagne, classified as Grand Cru. The result is an exciting, mineral-focused Champagne with great depth, fine texture, and complex aromatics.

La Closerie

The story of La Closerie is as individual as the wines themselves. In 1987, Jérôme Prévost inherited a small, modest parcel from his grandmother. At first, the grapes were sold to Laurent-Perrier, but in 1998 Prévost began vinifying his own Champagnes – without his own cellar, yet with a clear vision. The first wines were made at friends’ domaines until, in 2002, he rented a former air-raid shelter near his iconic vineyard Les Béguines. The 2003 vintage was the first Champagne made entirely in Gueux. The grapes still come from his vineyard of just two hectares, planted exclusively with Pinot Meunier – something unique in Champagne.

Chemical aids are avoided, and harvesting takes place only at physiological ripeness. The focus is not on sugar levels, but on balance and inner harmony of the fruit. Chaptalisation and acid correction are taboo. Each wine comes from a single vintage, is fermented spontaneously, aged in large wooden barrels, bottled unfiltered and without dosage.

The result is Champagne of exceptional energy, depth and complexity – wines that deliberately invite comparison with the great icons of Champagne.

Origin in Focus

Champagne

Champagne in north-eastern France is the home of the world’s most famous sparkling wine. The cool climate, limestone and chalk soils, and a long tradition of bottle fermentation shape its unmistakable style: tension, finesse and characteristic minerality. The main grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier.
