Description

France / Loire / Sancerre

In the 1980s, Jean-Marie Berthier moved to Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois and founded the Domaine des Clairneaux with his wife. In 1998, they took over the Domaine de Montbenoit in Coteaux du Giennois, a vineyard that his father had managed for many years. From these vineyards on both sides of the Loire, Vignobles Berthier was created, with vineyards in Centre-Loire, Sancerre, Giennois and Pouilly-Fumé. In 2012, the eldest son Clément took over the winemaking and marketing after spending 2 years on vineyards in Canada and the USA. The following year, Florian, the youngest son, returned home after expanding his knowledge of viticulture in Burgundy and New Zealand. The young winemakers manage the vineyards sustainably to highlight the terroir, which is mostly flint, limestone and clay-limestone.

The Berthier family combines traditional vineyard work with modern cellar techniques and places great emphasis on precision and sustainability. The Sauvignon Blanc wines from Sancerre and Menetou-Salon impress with clarity, minerality and aromatic finesse, while the south-western French wines show warmth, structure and expression. The combination of different terroirs gives the portfolio special diversity, shaped by authenticity and a clear signature. Vignobles Berthier has established itself as a reliable producer of regionally typical, elegant wines.

Loire

Origin in Focus

Loire

The Loire is a vast and diverse wine region that stretches along France’s longest river from Nantes to Sancerre. The cool to moderate climate and varied soils shape fresh, elegant wine styles. Famous examples include crisp Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, Chenin Blanc wines from Vouvray and Anjou, and fragrant Muscadet from the Atlantic-influenced Pays Nantais. Among the reds, Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Bourgueil and Saumur dominates with cool fruit and fine spice, accompanied by rosés and Crémants with lively freshness.

The Loire stands for clarity, balance and excellent price-to-pleasure value – ideal with fish, goat’s cheese and seasonal bistro cuisine.
