Owned by the renowned Thienpont family of winemakers since 1924, the winery has undergone a fascinating development. Under the leadership of Alexandre Thienpont, a phase of replanting the vineyards and a continuous improvement in the quality of winemaking began in 1985.

The Vieux Château Certan benefits from a unique terroir that is considered one of the best in Pomerol. Clay-filled gravel soil on iron-rich limestone creates the ideal basis for the creation of wines that, in great vintages, are among the best Bordeaux wines of all. This unique soil composition gives the wines an incomparable aroma and elegance.

The history of Vieux Château Certan is deeply rooted in the 18th century, when the estate was founded by the Demay family. Since then, it has undergone a fascinating journey through various families until it finally passed into the hands of the Thienpont family.

This connection to the past is emphasized by the name of the winery, which goes back to the original owner Certan, and the addition of "Vieux" (old), which underlines the historical importance and tradition of the winery.
