Description

Italy / Friuli-Venezia Giulia / Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte

The Gallo family has been closely involved in viticulture for over 100 years. Gianfranco, who has managed the family winery since 1978, has established himself as a grand master of white wines from Friuli. Gianfranco Gallo produces exclusively single-vineyard wines with enormously high quality standards. His wines are among the absolute best. Although the 2019 vintage yielded less in terms of quantity due to low temperatures compared to the abundant 2018 vintage, the quality of the grapes from the single vineyards of the Vie di Romans winery was impressively good. Another year with ideal conditions for the Burgundy-style Chardonnay from one of Italy's most experienced and quality-conscious wineries.

Vie di Romans

Vie di Romans from Mariano del Friuli is one of Friuli’s leading estates and is known for expressive, long-lived white wines. The warm yet wind-exposed climate of the Isonzo plain enables optimal ripening, while cool nights preserve freshness. Soils of gravel, sand and mineral-rich alluvial sediments give the wines clear structure and complex aromatics. Chardonnay, Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio develop remarkable depth, creamy texture and precise minerality here. Vie di Romans is characterised by late harvesting, low yields and deliberate barrel work, resulting in complex, concentrated yet elegant wines. The estate is regarded as a benchmark for premium white wines from Friuli.

Origin in Focus

Friuli

Friuli is regarded as a stronghold of elegant white wines. Between the Alps and the Adriatic, cool nights and mild days create aromatic, precise styles from varieties such as Friulano, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Ribolla Gialla. Tradition and innovation meet here: from classically clear vinifications to characterful orange wines and refined sparkling wines.
