La Rioja Alta

La Rioja Alta is one of Spain’s great, tradition-rich names and, like few other estates, represents a classically elegant Rioja style. In Haro, in the cooler part of Rioja Alta, mainly Tempranillo-based cuvées are produced with fine fruit, lively acidity and great finesse, supported by varieties such as Graciano. Typical is the long ageing in predominantly American oak, which contributes notes of vanilla, coconut, tobacco and fine spices without disturbing the balance. Legendary wines such as the Gran Reservas “904” and “890” combine depth, complexity and enormous ageing potential – ideal for collectors and lovers of mature wines. Despite its tradition, La Rioja Alta works with the utmost care in the vineyard and modern precision in the cellar. The result is timeless, beautifully structured food wines that show Rioja in its most noble form.

Origin in Focus

Rioja

Rioja is Spain’s best-known wine region and stands for elegant red wines with ageing potential. The main variety is Tempranillo, often accompanied by Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. The climate varies between Atlantic, continental and Mediterranean influences, creating different stylistic nuances – from fresh and fragrant to powerful and spicy. Ageing ranges from fruit-driven Joven wines to long-matured Reserva and Gran Reserva, classically often in oak. In addition to reds, aromatic white wines, especially Viura, and rosados also shine.
