Podere Il Carnasciale is the only winery worldwide to cultivate the indigenous grape variety Caberlot (a cross between Cabernet Franc and Merlot). The 2021 "Il" Caberlot is bottled after hand harvesting, temperature-controlled mash fermentation, and 22 months in barriques (50% new), followed by 16 months of bottle aging.

In the glass, a deep ruby garnet. The nose reveals prominent aromas of sour cherry, blackberry, cedar wood, violet, orange peel, spices, and liquorice. On the palate, a complex bouquet unfolds, dense yet elegant, with silky tannins, salty minerality, and a long, spicy finish.

Podere Il Carnasciale

Podere Il Carnasciale is a small, legendary estate in the southern Chianti area and famous for its extremely rare cult wine Il Caberlot. The grape variety of the same name, a natural crossing of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is grown exclusively here. The vineyards lie at sparse high-altitude sites with limestone and stony soils, which promote low yields and enormous concentration. The cool microclimate of the Tuscan hills provides elegant structure and fine aromatics. Il Carnasciale wines are powerful, precise and complex, with dark fruit, herbal notes, mineral depth and outstanding ageing potential. Because of the tiny production and meticulous handwork, the estate is one of Italy’s most sought-after boutique addresses.

Origin in Focus

Tuscany

Tuscany is one of Italy’s defining wine regions, known for Sangiovese and iconic appellations such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Mediterranean climate with sea breezes and diverse soils produces elegant, fresh wines with structure. On the coast, ‘Super Tuscans’ are also made from Cabernet, Merlot and other varieties. In addition to red wines, the region offers characterful whites such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Vermentino, as well as the traditional dessert wine Vin Santo. The result: tradition meets innovation – with clear terroir expression and great drinking pleasure.
