Dominus Estate

In the late 1960s, while studying at the University of California, Christian Moueix, a respected winemaker from Bordeaux, fell in love with Napa Valley and its wines.

After his studies, he returned home to manage the family estates, including Château Pétrus. His love for Napa Valley remained, and in 1981 he discovered the historic Napanook vineyard, which in the 1940s and 1950s had supplied grapes for some of Napa Valley’s finest wines.

He took it over together with his cousin, oenologist Jean-Claude Berrout.

The vineyards cover 50 hectares, some of which are still planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc dating back to 1880. These are the oldest vines in Napa County.

Today, the wines of Dominus Estate are known for their elegance, complexity and finesse. Alongside the world-famous ‘Dominus’, wines such as ‘Napanook’ and ‘Othello’ are also produced and are likewise highly regarded.

Kalifornien

Origin in Focus

California

California is the most versatile wine region in the USA – shaped by cool Pacific fog as well as hot inland valleys. This range enables styles from elegant, cool-climate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays to powerful Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux blends from Napa and Sonoma. Zinfandel stands for spicy, fruit-driven icons, while Paso Robles excels with Rhône varieties. Innovative winemakers, sustainable viticulture and diverse soils, from volcanic rock to slate and limestone, shape characterful wines with clear origin – from fresh everyday wines to world-famous top growths.
