The 2017 Dominus has graceful aromas of potpourri, forest floor, crushed stones, Ceylon tea and liquorice with a core of blackcurrant syrup, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and pickled plums, and a hint of garrigue. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and has a wonderful, calm intensity. The fruity, floral and spicy nuances are framed by firm but soft tannins and it finishes with long-lasting earthy notes.

Dominus Estate In the late 1960s, while studying at the University of California, Christian Moueix, a respected winemaker from Bordeaux, fell in love with the Napa Valley and its wines. After graduating, he returned home to manage the family vineyards, including Château Petrus. His love for Napa Valley remained and in 1981 he discovered the historic Napanook Vineyard, which had provided the grapes for some of the best Napa Valley wines in the 1940s and 50s. He took it over together with his cousin, the oenologist Jean-Claude Berrout. The vineyards cover 50 hectares of vines, some of which are still planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc dating back to 1880. These are the oldest vines in Napa County. The wines of the Dominus Estate are known today for their elegance, complexity and finesse. In addition to the world-famous “Dominus”, wines such as “Napanook” and “Othello” are produced, which are also highly regarded.
