Description

USA / California / Inland Valleys / Lodi

Still an insider tip, but wine critics are slowly taking notice of the fifth-generation family-run Maggio winery. Firmly in women's hands, the winemakers consistently focus on quality and cultivate their vineyards sustainably. Particularly old Petite Sirah vines grow here, a varietal first discovered in France in the mid-18th century. Today, this varietal primarily grows in Lodi, California, and despite its growing popularity, it is still not often found there. Despite its popularity, Petite Sirah is an extremely rare grape varietal with less than 10,000 hectares cultivated worldwide, mainly in California.

Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge is an up-and-coming estate known for its creative and approachable wines. The winery has its origins in California’s renowned wine region, where it focuses on producing characterful wines from old vines.

The grapes for the family estate’s Chardonnay come exclusively from sustainably farmed vineyards in California’s Lodi region. In Lodi, the days are warm and the nights are cool, allowing the grapes to ripen fully while preserving their natural acidity. This creates fresh, juicy wines that are also layered and complex, making them successful food companions. In Germany, the Old Soul Chardonnay, awarded ‘Best Buy’ by James Suckling, is available exclusively through Collectors Wine World.

The estate’s philosophy is to honour the heritage and stories behind the old vines, which have often been carefully tended for decades. These old vines bear fruit of incomparable quality and intensity, giving Old Soul wines their unique depth and expressiveness.

Oak Ridge wines are defined by their approachable, uncomplicated nature, making them perfect companions for any occasion. They offer excellent value for money and pay tribute to California’s winemaking tradition.

Kalifornien

Origin in Focus

California

California is the most versatile wine region in the USA – shaped by cool Pacific fog as well as hot inland valleys. This range enables styles from elegant, cool-climate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays to powerful Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux blends from Napa and Sonoma. Zinfandel stands for spicy, fruit-driven icons, while Paso Robles excels with Rhône varieties. Innovative winemakers, sustainable viticulture and diverse soils, from volcanic rock to slate and limestone, shape characterful wines with clear origin – from fresh everyday wines to world-famous top growths.
