Description

France / Bordeaux / Graves / Sauternes

Château Rieussec produces a strong sweet wine that has been awarded Premier Cru status and is one of the top 3 sweet wines in the small Sauternes appellation. The winery's first-class locations form a single, connected vineyard. The Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle grape varieties grow here on sandy, clayey gravel soils, from which the fine cuvée is made. Production is low and is firmly in the hands of Mother Nature; the château recently switched to sustainable viticulture. A traditional winemaker's saying goes that one vine should produce one bottle of wine. Since Château Rieussec was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the yield has been greatly reduced through strict selection of the best grapes. At Château Rieussec, one vine only produces about one glass of wine!

Château Rieussec

Château Rieussec, classified since 1855 as Premier Grand Cru Classé, is one of the Sauternais’ most renowned estates. The vineyards lie on the gravel and clay hills of Fargues – perfect conditions for Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, which here develop exceptional botrytis concentration.

The wines are marked by lush texture, exotic fruit, honey and spice notes, as well as elegant fresh acidity that gives them great balance and longevity. Under the leadership of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the estate has been modernised and oriented toward the highest precision. Château Rieussec today stands for powerful, complex and finely structured Sauternes – sensual, deep and capable of ageing for decades.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
