Château Rieussec 2015

Château Rieussec produces a strong sweet wine that has been awarded Premier Cru status and is one of the top 3 sweet wines in the small Sauternes appellation. The winery's first-class locations form a single, connected vineyard. The Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle grape varieties grow here on sandy, clayey gravel soils, from which the fine cuvée is made. Production is low and is firmly in the hands of Mother Nature; the château recently switched to organic viticulture. A traditional winemaker's saying goes that one vine should produce one bottle of wine. Since Château Rieussec was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the yield has been greatly reduced by strict selection of the best grapes. At Château Rieussec, one vine only produces about one glass of wine!
