The Dillon family of winemakers regards Quintus as their fifth child, alongside the red and white wines of Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion . Since the Romans, creators of the Saint-Émilion vineyards, were in the habit of naming their fifth child Quintus, Clarence Dillon renamed the estate Château Quintus. Inspired by an old watchtower built on the plateau above Saint-Émilion, the winery's second wine was named Le Dragon de Quintus - a mythical creature as the guardian and protector of its treasure: the spectacular terroir.
