Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Margaux

The origins of Château Prieuré-Lichine date back to the Middle Ages, when monks planted vines for sacramental wine in what was then swampland. The land was not drained until the 17th century by the Dutch. Until his death, the Château was owned by Alexis Lichine, who was considered a wine guru in his time and is the author of the famous "l’Encyclopédie mondiale des Vins". In 1999, the Château was bought by the Ballande family, who still own it today. Since the complete renovation of the wine cellar was completed in 2013, each parcel has been vinified separately. The wines of the Château show finesse and elegance and are at the same time firm and concentrated.

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Château Prieuré-Lichine, a 4ème Grand Cru Classé from 1855, lies in the heart of the Margaux appellation and owns scattered parcels on classic deep gravel soils that provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. This diversity of terroirs gives the wines elegant, floral Margaux finesse combined with clear dark fruit, fine spice and supple tannins.

Since the era of Alexis Lichine and through later modern investments, the estate has been extensively renewed: precise parcel work, sustainable farming and a state-of-the-art cellar define the current style. Prieuré-Lichine produces balanced, charming and at the same time long-lived wines that reflect the famous Margaux profile in an authentic and highly accessible way.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
