Description

France / Bordeaux / Médoc / Saint-Estèphe

Phélan Ségur is one of the most renowned Châteaux in St-Estèphe in the north of the Médoc. The vineyard spans 70 hectares of clay and gravel soils on the hills and plateaus of Saint-Estèphe. Here, the vines are distributed across four plots with very diverse soils, which contributes to the complexity of the wines. Between famous neighbors like Château Montrose and Château Calon Ségur, Phélan Ségur was founded in 1810 when Irish-born Frank Phélan merged two estates of the Comte de Ségur. After the Gardinier family successfully managed the winery for many decades, it passed into the ownership of the ambitious brothers Pierre and Philippe Van de Vyvere in 2018.

Château Phélan Ségur

Château Léoville Poyferré, 2ème Grand Cru Classé from 1855, is one of Saint-Julien’s characterful estates. The vineyards lie on deep, warm gravel soils over clay and limestone – ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The terroir delivers powerful yet elegant wines with dark fruit, cassis, fine spice and the smooth texture typical of Saint-Julien. Since modernisation under the Cuvelier family, the style has become even more refined: precise parcel work, careful harvesting and vinification that perfectly combines fullness and balance. Léoville Poyferré is now one of the most reliable, charming and profound crus of its rank, with great ageing potential and a distinctive signature.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
